About
Aberdare Hospital provides rehabilitation and recovery for people with complex, severe and enduring mental health challenges. Referrals will be accepted from medium/ low secure hospitals, PICU, acute admissions and the Criminal Justice System. Patients will be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.
Aberdare Hospital is a 10 bedded locked rehabilitation unit for males between the age of 18 and 65 who have:
- A primary diagnosis of mental illness or personality disorder and would benefit treatment offered within a locked rehabilitation service.
- Mental health illness that coexists with learning disabilities, ASD, challenging behaviour and/ or substance misuse.
- Disengaged and failed to maintain contact with treatment services in the past.
- Goals to live independently in the community and would benefit from support from rehabilitation services to prepare them for this.
Exclusions
- Patients with an acute drug and/or alcohol misuse problem.
- Individuals with a primary diagnosis of Dementia.
- Individuals with a primary diagnosis of Learning Disability.
