Visiting Information
Once you are on the patients approved visitor list you can arrange a visit via the Administration Team. We try to minimise disruption to patients therapy so we may ask that visits are made at weekends, or evenings where possible.
Usually, visits can last between 1-2 hours and take place in our visiting room. Some visits could take place in other locations such as in the village, depending on individual circumstances. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an approved adult. A member of the Nursing Team will supervise the first visit – this may be reviewed for future visits. The ward team will complete a risk assessment before any visit.
Can I get help with the costs of visiting
If you’re concerned about the costs of visiting we may be able to help. Staff may also be able to help visitors plan their journeys more effectively.

Parking is limited so, if you are planning to visit by car, ask well in advance about reserving a parking space. Please specify if you need a disabled access parking space.

Each area will have a list of restricted items you wont be able to take into the secure part of the hospital. The Admin Team will be able to advise you. There are lockers in reception should you need to store something securely when you arrive.

To meet secure standards, people entering secure areas may be searched. This includes carers, families and friends. It will vary according to where in Mill Lodge you are visiting.

Home-made foods can only be brought with agreement of the Lead Nurse. Food cannot usually be stored or reheated on site. For health and safety reasons food can often only be taken into visiting rooms and not onto the wards.
Can I bring gifts for the patient?
You can bring gifts for the patient. Staff will need to assess whether they are safe for the patient to have on the ward and add to the property list. There is a list of restricted and prohibited items which the ward team can provide you a copy of. Our Information Technology department can also provide advice about the latest technology patients can have access to.
Can a visit be refused or cancelled?
We try to minimise the number of visits which are refused or cancelled; especially at short notice, as we know that arranging travel, taking time off and organising childcare can be difficult.
From time to time it may not be possible for a visit to go ahead. For example, if the patient is unwell, if there is an infection or outbreak or illness on the ward (such as flu), or if the visit is deemed ‘counter-thereapeutic’ or may harm the patient’s health. We may refuse to allow a visitor to come to Mill Lodge Hospital if we believe they may be at risk, or if their past behaviour has been disruptive, or because they appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs when they arrive at Mill Lodge Hospital.
If your name is not on the Approved Visitor List, you will not be allowed to visit the patient, even if you have the required forms of identification unless the hospital manager agrees.
