Aberavon Hospital

Aberavon Hospital is located on the South Wales coastline with beach views over Swansea Bay. The Hospital is close to Port Talbot town centre with easy access via public transport to the Welsh towns and cities of Neath, Swansea, Bridgend and Cardiff. The Hospital provides spacious gardens and big car park for staff and visitors.

The Admission Process

Once we have received a referral, we will have an MDT meeting to discuss suitability for our hospital. If we deem the patient as suitable, we aim to assess them within 48 hours. Following the assessment, a decision will be made, the referrer will be informed and a report will be provided for funding application.

 

Funding will need to be approved before an admission date can be agreed. If required, day visits to the hospital can be arranged prior to admission.

Admission Criteria:

  • Males between the age of 18 and over
  • Detained under the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Primary diagnosis of mental illness
  • Secondary diagnosis of personality disorder, mild learning disability, autism or substance misuse disorders.

Exclusions:

  • Patients with acute drug and alcohol misuse problem.
  • Individuals with a primary diagnosis of Dementia.
  • Individuals with a primary diagnosis of Learning Disability.

       
 

Following a referral, we will carry out a pre-admission assessment within 2 working days. The assessment team will include; Consultant Psychiatrist, Registered Nursing staff and on occasions it will include consultant psychologist and/or an occupational therapist.
